Palm desert area activities

Things to do in Palm Desert California
The best place to visit while in Palm Desert is The Living Desert.  This fully functioning zoo and botanical garden have a flavor the whole family is sure to enjoy.  The property boasts a real-life representation of African and North American wildlife.  You can feed the giraffes and watch a serval devour its lunch.  Watch live exotic animal shows, hike among the many trails, visit the Discovery Center and Carousel, see the model train exhibit, ride the camels, just to name a few.  Spend the day seeing all the exciting animals and experiencing nature up close while being in town.  Visit The Living Desert!
The El Paseo Shopping Center is the main attraction for many people visiting the Coachella Valley.  Just off HWY 111, you'll find all of the fanciest and modern clothing stores today.  You can take a leisure walk down the road of over 200 stores, restaurants, pubs, art displays, cruise nights, jazz concerts and so much more!  The umbrellas and beautiful boutique shops have some of the most gorgeous landscaping Palm Desert has to offer.  It has some of the most excellent dining restaurants in Palm Desert and still draws a great crowd with their happy hours and dining deals!  Known as Palm Desert's "Rodeo Drive" or "Strip" it's a similar vibe as Scottsdale AZ and Beverly Hills mashed in one.  You'll love it!
If getting outdoors is more your thing, the Bump and Grind Trail is where it's at.  Get a head start early in the morning and be sure to bring lots of water.  You can find the mouth of the trail behind Target of HWY111 in Palm Desert.  Get an early start, and you'll be able to see the beautiful sunrise and enjoy the more temperate weather.  Later in the day, it can become a bit more exhausting and cumbersome due to the hot midday heat.  Bring lots of water and wear appropriate hiking apparel.
College of the Desert Street Fair is the best local flea market to attend.  With over 300 vendors every Saturday and Sunday, you'll be sure to find excitement and deals that can't be beaten!  You'll find all types of knick-knacks, fantastic wire, and metal art, incredible food to eat from all different ethnic backgrounds, handmade clothing, gifts, tools and so much more!  Be sure to stop out for a fun experience that won't break the bank at the C.O.D. Street Fair.
It's usually super hot out, and there's nothing better than beating the heat.  Stop out at the Palm Desert Aquatic Center to cool off and enjoy the sun!  If you enjoy doing laps in the lap lane and getting your exercise in or getting all wet wild and crazy by going down the water slides, this place has all the excitement for your entire family!  It's tucked away from the beaten path, but it's definitely worth heading out for a visit.  Beautiful outdoor swimming complex designed for all ages from the shallow kiddie pool area to the deep diving end for more advanced swimmers.  Go ahead and get your feet wet!
Visit the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Visitor Center off Hwy 74 in Palm Desert.  Learn about both mountains and their rise to a staggering 10,834-foot height, the height at the summit of Mt. San Jacinto.  There's a visitor center at the top that gives way to an incredible bird's eye view of the entire valley floor.  The center can be reached from the valley floor as well as the trails leading out of Idyllwild up in the Alpine country.  The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, The Forestry Service, Bureau of Land Management, State and Local Governments, all got together to build the monument October 24,2000.  There are lots of classroom activities, projects and education available regarding the wildlife in the area and so much more at the Visitor Center.  Great way to learn more about the area!
Still, haven't seen something you liked mentioned above?  Stop at the Palm Desert Visitor Center for even more options available for residents and tourists alike.  There are maps of the trails, directions to popular attractions, brochures, ideas and answers to all your questions.  You may get more information of attractions outside of the immediate Palm Desert area including information on Joshua Tree National Park and the hiking trails they have in that area as well.  Stop in and learn even more!
In the mood to take it slowly somewhere indoors?  A short drive down HWY 111 and you'll find the Palm Springs Art Museum.  There you'll experience the history of the famous and not-so-famous people of the Coachella Valley.  The Palm Springs Art Museum is a beautiful space with great Air Conditioning to get out of the heat!  For the price of free, you can't beat this as a great way to see more about local artists and featured desert photography.  After taking a stroll through the museum, stop outside to see the art sculptures and the fountains before leaving.  It's a great place to spend the afternoon or evening in the Coachella Valley.
